Hamas man killed in shooting attack

Another wounded in seperate incident; motives for Gaza shootings unknown.

One Hamas member was killed and another was wounded in two separate shooting attacks Tuesday in the Gaza Strip, emergency workers said. The motives for the shootings was unknown, and there was no immediate claim of responsibility. Gunmen from Hamas and Fatah have clashed in recent weeks in a power struggle for control of the Palestinian government following Hamas' victory in January parliamentary elections. In Gaza City, Mohammed Tatar, 25, was walking down the street when he was shot twice in the head by unknown assailants. He was evacuated to the hospital where he died of his wounds, hospital officials said. Hundreds of angry Hamas supporters marched through the streets of Gaza demanding the security forces take action. Earlier in Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, Mohammed Musaabah, 28, another man affiliated with Hamas, was shot in the stomach and leg by an unknown assailant. He was evacuated to the hospital and was undergoing surgery. There was no word on his condition. "People who are behind these incidents must be caught by security and executed in the public square," said Marwan Abu Ras, a Hamas official. A spokesman for the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a militant group loosely linked with Fatah, who goes by the nickname Abu Mohammed denied that his group had any connection with the attacks and he condemned them.
