Hunger striker in PA prison transferred to hospital

Palestinian university student had spent 16 months in Israeli prison before being arrested by PA.

A Palestinian university student who has been on hunger strike in a Palestinian Authority prison in the West Bank was transferred to hospital Sunday for medical treatment.
Abdullah Al-Aker, 29, of Nablus – who has been in prison for the past 30 months on suspicion of Hamas membership – began a hunger strike on May 27, sources in the city said.
Al-Aker had spent 16 months in Israeli prison before being arrested by the PA security forces, the sources said.
His family said that PA security forces transferred him to a hospital in Nablus early Sunday and called on human rights organizations to intervene to save his life.
In a separate development, PA security forces arrested seven Hamas supporters in the West Bank in the past 48 hours, the Islamist movement announced.
Agents belonging to the Preventive Security Service arrested the men from their homes, Hamas said, noting that some of the detainees had just been released from Israeli prison.
