Indonesia's president to meet Abbas next month

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is slated to meet Indonesia's leader in Jordan early next month as part of efforts to strengthen ties with the world's most populous Muslim nation, a Palestinian diplomat said Sunday. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's spokesman Dino Patti Djalal would not confirm details of the visit, but said earlier that Abbas wrote a letter seeking Indonesia's help in convincing the West to continue aid to his Hamas-led government. Yudhoyono responded favorably, saying he would do what he could to help, Djalal said. The Palestinian Embassy's charge d'affairs in Indonesia, Nasser Abdul Wahab, said Yudhoyono, who is touring the Middle East next week, had agreed to meet Abbas in Amman, Jordan "to inject more energy in bilateral relations."
