Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei decried the criminal acts that took place on late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s private island as the outcome of “Western civilization and liberal democracy” in a pair of social media posts on Tuesday.

Khamenei, who is the head of the Iranian regime responsible for the widespread oppression of women in Iran and violent crackdowns on anti-regime protestors, described Epstein’s island as an “island of corruption.”

“Everything we had ever heard about their corruption is one thing; this affair of that morally corrupt island is another altogether,” Khamenei stated.

Over three million files related to Epstein’s dealings were released by the United States Justice Department, including heavily redacted documents, many of which related to alleged crimes that took place on the island, including sex trafficking.

Khamenei claimed that the alleged crimes “are indicative of what Western civilization and liberal democracy are,” adding that Western civilization and liberal democracy “proceed for 200, 300 years,” and that what occured on Epstein's island is the “ultimate outcome” of such systems.

“This island of corruption is only one example. There is much more of this,” he wrote. “Just as this was not apparent and then became exposed, there are many other things that will soon come to light.”

UNHRC experts state Epstein crime may amount to 'crimes against humanity'

On Monday, a panel of independent experts appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council stated that the crimes committed by Epstein and a number of his associates “may reasonably meet the legal threshold of crimes against humanity” due to “the scale, nature, systematic character, and transnational reach” of the abuse detailed in the Epstein files.

“All the allegations contained in the ‘Epstein Files’ are egregious in nature and require independent, thorough, and impartial investigation, as well as inquiries to determine how such crimes could have taken place for so long,” the UN experts stated.
