An Iranian air force jet crashed during a nighttime training exercise in the Nowbaran district overnight on Thursday, killing one of the pilots, Iranian media reported.
Semi-official state-sponsored outlet Mehr News Agency cited Hamzeh Emraei, the Deputy Governor of Hamadan Province for Political, Security, and Social Affairs, as saying that rescue personnel subsequently rushed to the scene of the crash.
“This afternoon, a training plane crashed in the Nowbaran region, and rescue forces were immediately dispatched to the area,” Emraei reportedly said. “The details of the accident are under investigation, and additional information will be announced later.”
One pilot survived the crash
Iranian state-run outlet IRIB reported that the Iranian army confirmed a pilot had been killed in the crash, but that the other pilot survived.
The Tehran Times named the pilot killed in the incident as Captain Mehdi Firouzmand.
