Missiles and drones flying from the direction of Iran fell on the territory of the airport in the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan on Thursday, a source close to the Azerbaijani government told Reuters.
A fire has started as a result of the incident, the source said, adding that an official statement would soon follow. It was not immediately clear how many missiles and drones fell in the area.
A video shared by Israeli media showed an explosion near a parking lot near the Nakhchivan International Airport, which is about 10 km from the border with Iran.
Video footage shared with Reuters by their source showed black smoke rising near the airport terminal. The report also said that a second drone landed near a school in the area.
According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, two people were injured in the attack, while there were no casualties reported so far.
The Azerbaijan government summoned the Iranian ambassador and said that it reserved the right to take "appropriate response measures."
Explosions heard in Qatar, Bahrain as Iranian retaliation continues
Multiple explosions were heard in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday, according to sources on the ground that spoke with Reuters, as Iran began a new wave of retaliatory missile strikes against the Gulf states.
The Qatari Defense Ministry confirmed the attack and said that its air defense systems were working to intercept the threat.
There were also explosions reported in Bahrain, according to another report by Reuters and Agence France-Presse.
