Iran offers Lebanon 'full support'

Ahmadinejad to visit Beirut amid Israeli-Lebanese tensions.

Iran will offer full support to Lebanon and Syria in the event of an Israeli attack, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Sunday after meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Ali al-Shami in Teheran.
He added that Iran, Syria and Lebanon are in constant contact and share their opinions on the potential Israeli war threat.

"The government of the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people stand beside the governments and the people of Lebanon and Syria against the violence and the threats of the Zionist regime," Mottaki said, adding that the Islamic Republic's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was set to make an official state visit to Lebanon following the month of Ramadan. The visit will be the first by an Iranian president in Lebanon since Mohammad Khatami came to Beirut in 2003.
The meeting between the Iranian and Lebanese foreign ministers came amid high tensions between Lebanon and Israel. The IDF fired at a Lebanese fishing boat that was sailing in a restricted zone Saturday night, after a warning to return to Lebanese waters was ignored.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Last week, a border clash between IDF and LAF forces resulted in the deaths of an Israeli soldier as well as three Lebanese soldiers and a Lebanese journalist. Lebanese reports said the border conflict began when an IDF patrol attempted to uproot a tree on the Lebanese side of the border.It was later confirmed by UNIFIL that the IDF was performing maintenance work across the fence, but still within Israeli territory.
