Iraq: Roadside bomb targets US convoy, causes large blaze

Iraqi police say a dozen fire trucks and other equipment have been brought in to fight a large fire in eastern Baghdad. Police say the blaze broke out early Monday morning after a roadside bomb exploded next to a US military convoy. An officer said the blast damaged an armored Humvee. It also set fire to nearby shops and spread to other stalls in a large marketplace. More than a dozen US and Iraqi firefighting vehicles rushed to the scene to put out the blaze. The policeman spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to release the information. The US military had no immediate comment on the incident.
