Iraq, Syria discuss strengthening border security

Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad al-Boulani arrived in Syria on Friday for talks on strengthening security along the two countries' border, which has been crossed by militants seeking to join the insurgency in Iraq. Boulani said on arrival that he and his Syrian counterpart would sign agreements to set up joint security patrols along the long, desert border. Syrian Interior Minister Bassam Abdul-Majid, who met Boulani at the airport, said the two sides would agree on "understandings that aim to bring stability and security to Iraq." Both the United States and Iraq have accused Syria of failing to take sufficient steps to stop militants from infiltrating into Iraq to join insurgents fighting the US-led forces and Iraqi government troops.
