Iraq: US army reports 3 American soldiers killed

The US military on Tuesday reported three US soldiers killed in separate attacks in Iraq, including one in an explosion in Diyala province where a new operation is under way to clear insurgents from the area northeast of Baghdad. The Task Force Lightning soldier died and two others were wounded Tuesday after an explosion struck their vehicle during operations in Diyala, the military said in a statement. A roadside bomb also killed a Task Force Marne soldier and wounded three others during a patrol south of Baghdad. Small-arms fire also killed a Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldier during combat Monday in an eastern section of the capital, the military said, adding that the soldier's unit continues to conduct clearing operations in the area, alongside Iraqi national police.
