Iraq: US, Iraqi troops clash with gunmen

US and Iraqi troops clashed with gunmen in a Sunni insurgent stronhold north of the heavily fortified Green Zone on Wednesday, killing at least one person and leaving nine suspected insurgents captured, residents and officials said. The fighting between coalition forces and attackers armed with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars broke out about 5 a.m., witnesses said.
