Lebanon: Multinational force patrolling coast

Lebanon said Friday the UN had informed it that a joint French, Italian and Greek naval force has begun patrolling the Lebanese coast. A government official said the monitoring of the coastline, six miles from Lebanese territorial waters began at 12:30 p.m. (0930 GMT) Friday. Government spokeswoman Miri Eisin said Friday that Israel will end its naval blockade of Lebanon within hours. Israel, yielding to intense international pressure, ended its air blockade of Lebanon on Thursday, but said it would maintain the naval blockade until international vessels arrived to monitor the seas.
