The Libyan Supreme Court on Tuesday postponed to January 31 its verdict on five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor who had appealed against their conviction of infecting more than 400 children with the AIDS virus.
In a session lasting fewer than five minutes, Judge Ali al-Allout said the hearing was adjourned to Jan. 31. The accused were not present, but they were represented by their lawyers.
Several European diplomats attended the session as the trial has drawn international criticism.
More than 100 relatives of the infected children were outside the court holding banners calling for the death sentences on the accused to be carried out. Many parents held photographs of their children, who were infected at a children's hospital in Benghazi.
Riot police stood guard outside the court.
