A top leader of Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood Movement slammed the government, saying it was trying to create divisions within the group by making false accusations against some of its members, it was reported on Monday.
"There are blatant attempts to create a division among the Islamic movement," Jamil Abu-Bakr said in a statement posted on the group's Web site.
Abu-Bakr's remarks came in response to recent accusations by Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf al-Bakhit that the Brotherhood had developed extreme elements within its ranks. Abu-Bakr denied the allegations saying the group did not condone or support extremist ideas.
