Official: Egypt opens Rafah crossing to medical cases for 3 days

Authorities have ordered a three-day opening of the Rafah border crossing to allow Palestinians to cross into Egypt from the Gaza Strip for medical treatment, an Egyptian security official said Saturday. Palestinians in urgent need of surgery as well as cancer and heart patients will be given the priority to cross into Egypt, the official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press. The Rafah terminal has been closed since Hamas seized control of Gaza Strip in June. It was briefly reopened by force for 10 days in January.
