Two wounded in drive-by attack on PA official

Assailants fired at the car of a senior Palestinian security official in the Gaza town of Rafah on Saturday, wounding the man's bodyguard and a girl, hospital officials said. There was no claim of responsibility, but it appeared the shooting was the latest in the widening factional fighting between Hamas gunmen and security forces loyal to Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. The car being targeted belonged to a local officer of the Preventive Security Service, which is allied with Abbas. The bodyguard and the girl were moderately wounded and required surgery, hospital officials said. Earlier Saturday, both sides exchanged fire for a few minutes in the area of Abbas' compound and the nearby Hamas-run Foreign Ministry in Gaza City.
