Assailants fired at the car of a senior Palestinian security official in the Gaza town of Rafah on Saturday, wounding him, his bodyguard and a girl, hospital officials said.
There was no claim of responsibility, but it appeared the shooting was the latest in the widening factional fighting between Hamas gunmen and security forces loyal to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

The car being targeted belonged to Hassan Jarbouh, the deputy director of the Rafah branch of the Preventive Security Service, which is allied with Abbas.
Jarbouh was in critical condition, while the bodyguard and the girl, a bystander, were moderately wounded, hospital officials said.
Earlier Saturday, both sides exchanged fire for a few minutes in the area of Abbas' compound and the nearby Hamas-run Foreign Ministry in Gaza City.
