UAE president in Damascus for talks with Assad

Emirates President Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan met briefly with the Syrian president upon his arrival in Damascus Sunday at the start of a two-day official visit. In comments to Syria's state-run news agency SANA, Sheik Al Nahyan said the visit "will be an important opportunity to consult with President Bashar Assad on the situation in the Arab world and to discuss regional and international issues of common interest." Sheik Al Nahyan, who is accompanied by a high-level delegation, was greeted at Damascus airport by Assad. The two leaders are expected to hold official talks on Monday. The UAE president is on a three-nation tour that also is set to take him to Algeria and France. According to SANA, the United Arab Emirates is considered Syria's biggest trade partner with multi-billion UAE investment projects under way.
