Some 350 women activists from 35 countries kicked off a 12-day bicycle ride Saturday in northern Syria to convey a message of peace and highlight the suffering of Arab women in the Middle East, the Syrian state news agency SANA reported.
The "Follow the Women - Women for Peace" ride began in Syria's northern city of Aleppo and will pass through Lebanon and the Palestinian territories before ending April 19 in Amman, Jordan, according to SANA.
Areeba, a private mobile telephone company, organized the ride, which is also supported by Asma Assad, the wife of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The event, which is being held for the third consecutive year, includes women from across the Arab world and from the US, Britain, Italy, Turkey and Iran.
