A 69-year-old woman was killed and some 50 people were injured on Sunday morning when an Egged bus crashed into a truck near Moshav Yesodot. Fifteen Magen David Adom ambulances and mobile intensive care units were on hand to treat the accident victims.
Paramedics found the elderly woman unconscious and without a heartbeat.
Despite their efforts to resuscitate her, they were unsuccessful.
Ambulances took 17 of the injured, including a number of soldiers, were taken to Rehovot’s Kaplan Medical Center.
All but two of the injured there suffered light injuries. The bus driver was hurt in the head and neck, suffering moderate injuries, as did a passenger who was sitting in the front of the bus.
An MDA helicopter flew the others to Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba, while ambulances took those who need less urgent care to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in Tzrifin and Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem.
Those who were less seriously injured were taken Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot. Kiryat Gat resident Yiska Jacqueline Petussi, who was lightly hurt, told doctors in Kaplan’s emergency room that she was fortunate because she “always sits behind the driver. Today, for a change, a soldier was sitting there, so I sat farther back. The woman who sat behind the bus driver was the one killed.”
