Survey reveals Arab localities have problems burning garbage, causing severe amounts of air pollution, ministry statement says.

The Environmental Protection Ministry launched an Arabic-language public relations campaign to convince residents to stop burning their waste, the office said Sunday evening. A survey conducted in 82 Arab local councils revealed that more than half of them have problems of burning garbage, causing severe amounts of air pollution, a statement from the ministry said.
“In many localities in the Arab and agricultural sector, a phenomenon of burning waste in close proximity to and inside communities exists, causing severe damage to the health of residents and to the environment,” Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan said.“In addition to enforcement activities, we are launching a public relations campaign to bring about changes in the perception and behaviors among the public, to raise awareness to the health and environmental dangers and damages to quality of life that are caused to residents following the burning of waste.”
