If Israelis could hold any public office, they would most want to be president, a poll found this week.The survey found that 60.5 percent of Israelis see themselves as having leadership qualities.President is the job more Israelis would want than any other (14.6%), followed by finance minister with 13.2% and prime minister at 11.8%.Only 3.2% were interested in being IDF chief of staff.People aged 18-34 are more interested in being finance minister than any other position (14.5%), while president is in third place (12.1%) for that age group.The poll found that people who earn an above-average salary are 11% more likely to see themselves as having leadership qualities than those whose salary is below average.Women were far less likely to see themselves in leadership positions, with nearly half (49%) of the females polled saying so, as opposed to only 27% of men.In addition, over three times as many secular people (17%) as religious people (5.6%) said they very much see themselves as leaders.The poll was conducted by Geocartography, commissioned by the Golan Seminar and Regavim Yeshiva, and surveyed 500 people.“The numbers are encouraging and show the Israeli public wants to be involved in leadership,” a Regavim Yeshiva spokesman said.“We believe that these are qualities that we, as educators, must encourage in order to raise the next generation of Israeli leaders.”
