TA court indicts 4 in beachfront attack on Jaffa man

Suspects assault TA worker who they thought robbed them; indictment doesn't mention racist, nationalist motive to the attack.

The Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday indicted four people, including three minors, for aggravated assault and battery in the beating of a Jaffa man on Purim.
Daniel Karai, 18, is accused of leading the assault on Tel Aviv Municipality worker Hassan Ausruf of Jaffa, in the early hours of February 24. The three minors are accused of taking part in the beating as well, during which, the indictment states, they “continued to beat him over his entire body, as the complainant lay bleeding on the ground.”
Though Ausruf complained that the youths were using racist slurs in the attack, the indictment does not mention any sort of racist or nationalist motive.
The indictment states that around 4:15 a.m., the youths, all of whom are from Tiberias, were sitting on the Tel Aviv promenade near Jerusalem Beach when passersby stole cell phones and bags belonging to them.
The alleged robbers fled the scene and shortly thereafter Ausruf arrived as part of his job as a street cleaner.
The indictment alleges that Karai and the other youths suspected Ausruf of being involved in the robbery and chased him down before beating him repeatedly, only stopping when a passerby began shouting at them.
Ausruf was badly hurt in the beating, and spent 10 days recovering from his wounds in Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital.
On Tuesday, the court requested that Karai be kept in jail until the end of the legal proceedings against him.
