Four teenage boys have been arrested by Carmiel police on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old and filming the distributing footage then circulating it between themselves, Northern District police said Monday.
Police said the case came to light  when a complaint was issued two weeks ago by the parents of a 13-year-old girl from northern Israel. They said that she was assaulted by a number of local teenage boys and that the suspects had filmed the incident and circulated the video among themselves.
On Monday police brought the suspects for a closed-door remand extension hearing at the Acre Magistrate’s Court. Police said the first suspect was arrested on Saturday and that, following developments in the case, they made the decision to arrest three additional suspects.
Police said the alleged assaults are believed to have taken place at a shopping center in the North.
Earlier this month, a group of 11 youths from central Israel, aged between 13 to 17, were indicted for the alleged gang rape of a 12-year-old girl. The incidents allegedly took place on a number of occasions, including one act that took place on school grounds.
As in this week’s case from Carmiel, the suspects allegedly filmed the incident and circulated the video among themselves.
