1. FILM: Questionable Behavior
In the Swedish drama Force Majeure, a family on a skiing holiday in the French Alps find themselves staring down an avalanche during lunch one afternoon.
Thomas, the father, unaffected by the cries of his wife to save the children, runs for his life. As a result, the family’s dynamic is shaken to its core, with a question mark hanging over the patriarch in particular. Directed by Ruben Östlund.
2. For the Love of Music
At the beginning of Song One, Franny, a successful anthropologist, is called back to her home in New York when her talented musician brother is hit by a car and falls into a coma. After years of having distanced herself from her mother and brother, she discovers her brother’s unconditional love for music. She meets a well-known musician – adored by her brother – and an exciting romance develops, which changes her life completely.

3. DANCE: Seeking Home
Idan Sharabi and dancers explore the eternal search for “home” and the concept’s multi-layered meanings. The performances are experienced in an exciting and intimate setting, featuring iconic dances adapted to the dance exhibition at the Israel Museum. Presented in conjunction with “Out of the Circle: The Art of Dance in Israel.”

4. MUSIC: Celebrating 20 years
Twenty years have passed since Amir Lev released his album Amir Lev. Songs such as “Aryeh and Ruti,” “Six Hours” and “Hold Me” have become an integral part of the Israeli music pantheon. The 20 Show will be performed at the Barby Club, presenting Lev’s album in its entirety, along with songs from other albums, special guest Evyatar Banai and more surprises.

5. Classical Concerts
The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will host pianist Yuja Wang and conductor Lionel Bringuier for seven concerts. The program will include Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, Rapsodie espagnole and Concerto in D for the Left Hand; Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition; and Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture.

6. Eilat Music Fest
Conductors John Nelson (US), Roberto Paternostro (Austria) and Yaron Gottfried (Israel) will join this year’s Isrotel ClassiCameri Festival in Eilat. The event will host the Israel Chamber Orchestra for a weekend of music in Eilat’s sunny holiday atmosphere. The varied program will feature works by Schubert, Bach, Brahms and many others. Among the prominent musicians to participate are Israeli piano duo Yuval Admoni and Tami Kanazawa; pianist Elisso Bolkvadze (Georgia/France); violinist Adrian Justus (Mexico/Israel); and soprano Einat Aronstein.

7. Low-Fi Classics
One of America’s unsung bands, Low, will get the musical year off to an evocative start. The Minnesota trio, led by guitarist/ singer Alan Sparhawk and his drummer/ singer wife Mimi Parker, formed in 1993 and has been creating haunting, low-fi classics ever since. Robert Plant recorded two songs on his album Band of Joy, and said of them, “It’s great music; it’s always been in the house playing away beside Jerry Lee Lewis and Howlin’ Wolf…”

8. THEATER: When a Trip Goes Wrong
Trip, a rock musical, is the story of four Israelis whose trip to the jungles of South America went horribly wrong. Three of the hitchhikers experience psychedelic drugs, and slowly but surely the demons left behind in Israel come creeping back with no exit seemingly in sight. Yinon and Na’ama Bar-Shira of the Pnima Theater have traveled in South America and are the first to raise these issues and questions on stage. The twosome wrote the rock musical based on their experiences that almost resulted in death.

9. ART: Double Exhibition
A double exhibition titled “New Works” features the works of Yair Perez and ZeroCents.
Perez exhibits small and large format paintings. Some are abstract paintings bursting with color, and others are characterized by monochromatic colors and reduced details. Zero- Cents exhibits paintings that uncover a world of demonic and grotesque characters, a world related to his street art and to previous exhibitions. Curator: Tzachi Ben-Moshe.

10. UPCOMING DANCE: Rocking With the Bad Boys
Rock the Ballet 2 is the new performance of Rasta Thomas and the Bad Boys of Dance, who are coming to Israel for a brief tour. Each dancer was selected based on his extraordinary physical abilities and artistry. The performance integrates various dance styles with stunning video art in the background and music by Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake and The Black Eyed Peas.
