Exit stage left Sir, - Ilan Pappe, a senior lecturer in the University of Haifa's Department of Political Science, says he is moving to the UK because it is "increasingly difficult to live in Israel" ("Controversial historian to quit Israel for UK," April 2). Well, what a good choice! The British Empire in its death throes drew lines on maps that are responsible for most of today's ethnic strife and wars. Still, Pappe can campaign freely here with all the anti-Jewish, anti-Israel and anti-Zionist mobs. He can write letters to a press eager to print them, and will be welcome on most campuses to vent his anti-Zionism to an appreciative audience of irrational young Muslims. He will be lauded by the BBC, interviewed at length and quoted ad nauseam, and warmly welcomed by self-loathing Jewish intellectuals and sundry "celebrities."
