UK, Danish militaries report deaths of 1 soldier each in Afghanistan

A British army dog handler was shot and killed by insurgents in southern Afghanistan, the military said Friday. The Danish Army reported a second death in a separate incident. The Ministry of Defense said Friday that the soldier from the Royal Army Veterinary Corps was hit by small arms fire during a patrol in the Sangin area of Helmand province on Thursday. An explosives sniffer dog also died. Six troops were wounded, all from the Parachute Regiment, the ministry said. None of their injuries was life-threatening. The dead soldier's name was not released. The army said next of kin have been informed. Separately, Denmark's Army said a Danish soldier was killed and three injured Friday when their armored vehicle hit an explosive device, also in Helmand province.
