Defense Minister Ehud Barak decided to extend the Israeli territory defined as currently in a "special condition" to all communities within 40 kilometers of the Gaza Strip border, his office said in a statement Wednesday. The statement means that the Defense Ministry, through IDF OC Home Front Command, has the authority to issue binding regulations for the population in the area. Citizens living within 40 kilometers of the Gaza Strip must follow the instructions of the Home Front Command. Barak's instruction is valid for 48 hours and must then be ratified by the government. "I call again on all residents to follow to the letter the instructions of the Home Front Command," the minister said in his statement.
