Shalev to Ban: Hamas using Gaza civilians as human shields Staff
Israel on Tuesday formally issued a complaint to the UN about Hamas's use of civilians in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, Israel Radio reported. In a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Israel's Ambassador to the UN Gabriela Shalev wrote that the Islamic organization was using civilians as human shields, and was staging attacks from inside schools, mosques, homes and hospitals. Shalev stressed that the IDF takes all precautions to avoid harming civilians, and blamed Hamas for causing any such casualties. According to Israel Radio, the letter came in response to Monday's UN Human Rights Council resolution which condemned the Israeli offensive in Gaza for "massive violations of human rights of the Palestinian people."
