Hamas official: Group wants to seal Schalit deal as soon as possible

Hamas is willing to renew the negotiations on a prisoner exchange on captive IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, the deputy of the terror group's political bureau, Moussa Abu-Marzouk told Egyptian paper A-Shuruk on Saturday. He said negotiations in Cairo had brought about major progress and that the movement wanted to seal a deal as early as possible. On Friday, Egyptian sources said the Schalit case was still open, despite an admission of failure in the talks made by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert during a statement to the press made Tuesday. The sources said Israel issued the statement as a maneuver to pressure Hamas into lowering its demands. The Jerusalem Post could not independently verify the report in A-Shuruk.
