Paintings attributed to Hitler to be auctioned
08/21/2009
Three watercolors depicting rural scenes and attributed to Adolf Hitler will come under the hammer next month, a German auction house said Friday. The Weidler Auction House said that "White Church in the Wachau" and two other paintings attributed to the Nazi dictator were expected to fetch a five-digit sum on Sept. 5. Two other watercolors signed by Hitler fetched €18,000 ($25,637) and €14,000 at an auction in April. A seller in Vienna was offering the three latest watercolors. The paintings are dated from 1910-1911 when Hitler himself lived in the Austrian capital as a struggling artist, and is believed to have painted several hundred works.
