Lawyer: Demjanjuk trial in Germany to start November 30
Lawyer Demjanjuk trial
John Demjanjuk's trial on charges of being an accessory to the murder of thousands at a Nazi death camp will begin November 30, his German lawyer said Tuesday. The Munich state court has set aside 35 trial days through to early May 2010 to hear Demjanjuk's case, his lawyer Guenther Maull said. Demjanjuk arrived in the southern German city in May after losing a lengthy court battle to avoid deportation from the US. The retired Ohio auto worker has been in custody since then. The 89-year-old was charged in July with being an accessory to the murder of 27,900 people at the Sobibor death camp in Nazi-occupied Poland, where prosecutors allege he served as a guard.
