Hearing on Galloway ban postponed

British MP accused of giving money to Hamas refused entry to Canada.
A federal court hearing on a bid to lift Canada's entry ban on an outspoken anti-war British lawmaker has been put on hold until later this week.

British Parliament member George Galloway's lawyer was taken to a hospital with a foot injury Monday morning before the hearing. The hearing has been rescheduled for Wednesday.

The government had refused entry to Galloway on national security grounds last year. The government said he provided money to Hamas, which is banned in Canada as a terrorist organization.

The Defend Free Speech Campaign, which is asking the court to review the case, says the ban on Galloway was politically motivated because he has criticized the war in Afghanistan.

Galloway's spokesman Ron McKay said Monday that his client plans to visit Canada if the ban is lifted.
