LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan - A bomb exploded near a police station outside a crucial city in Afghanistan's south on Tuesday where Afghan forces are readying to assume security responsibility within hours, another worrying sign as insurgents seek to disrupt a gradual transition process.
The roadside bomb hit a police vehicle near a newly built police station in Bolan, just outside the bustling market city of Lashkar Gah.Lashkar Gah is due to be handed to Afghan forces on Wednesday. It is the most contentious of seven areas on the list for handover this week at the start of the first phase of a transition process that will end with all foreign combat troops leaving Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
