12 family members arrested for illegal mining

Police arrested 12 residents of the village of Turan suspected of illegal mining, the Israel Tax Authority announced Monday.

The suspects, all members of the same family, were mining and selling limestone and dolomite. Police say they caused irreparable environmental damage estimated at over NIS 19 million.

The Israel Tax Authority reported that the suspects have been selling the rock for years but did not report the sales to relevant authorities.
