Israel's foreign ministry vehemently denied reports it was involved in the tragedy unfolding in Myanmar.
In response to a story published in Hebrew Daily Haaretz on Monday claiming Israel had sold naval vessels and mounted machine guns to the Myanmar government, which is currently involved in a brutal crackdown on the Muslim Rohingya minority, the ministry spokesperson issued a harsh statement, calling the report "fake."
"Israel's military export monitoring policy is frequently assessed according to a variety of considerations, among them the condition of human rights in the target country and the policies of the UN Security Council and other international agencies," the ministry said in a statement, responding to the claim that it continued to sell weapons worth tens of millions of dollars, despite the situation in Myanmar.
