Police inquiry launched into Sakhnin brawls

National police have set up an inquiry into how a heavily policed soccer match degenerated into riots between fans of an Arab soccer team and a Jerusalem club, Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra said Monday. Neither side scored in the match Sunday in the Arab town of Sakhnin in northern Israel. But tempers flared at the end of the game between the hawkish fans of Beitar Jerusalem and Arab fans of Bnei Sakhnin who threw rocks, bottles and sticks at each other. After the game, police launched an investigation into the unrest, Ezra said.
