2,100 apartments planned next to Ramat Beit Shemeh Gimmel

Building projects will encompass two new Haredi neighborhoods.

The regional committee for planning and construction for Jerusalem gave, at the beginning October, the initial approval to a major plan for the establishment of two new neighborhoods next to Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel tailored for the Haredi public.

As part of the plan, a total of 2,100 apartment units will be built, which will be geared towards the requirements of the Haredi community. Within the next couple of months after the plan will be fully developed and submitted, the land is expected to be marketed by the Israel Land Administration. Among the contenders to win the tender for the new area are Haredi non-profit organizations, who will market apartments to the Haredi community.
The vast project for the new neighborhoods will be allocated adjacent to Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel and built as a direct extension to Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel which is to be inhabited by a Haredi community.
The building plans for the neighborhoods were adapted to serve the requirements and needs of the Haredi public in an effort to secure appropriate and suitable public institutions, by taking into account that a Haredi family consists of 5.5 children on average compared with an average of 3 children in the general public. As part of the adaptation, changes were made to the original plans to free up more space, which will serve as public areas. In addition it was determined that the buildings will not be built higher than five floors.
A similar plan is currently advanced in the city for the construction of 2,150 apartment units in the area of Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel after the Israel Land Administration marketed the land last year.
