Five families gave their consent to donate organs, saving the lives of 17 people in five days, the ADI-National Transplant Center said.

Some of the transplant recipients were moved up in line due to the fact that they had an ADI card.

Dr. Tamar Ashkenazi, director of the Transplant Center, said: “An exceptional effort and intensive activity on the part of the many hospitals that were involved went into the venture. The process was complex and involved performing 17 transplants of various organs - heart, lung, liver and kidneys.

“Surgery teams, coordinating nurses, operating room staffs, intensive care units, blood bank laboratories, imaging institutes, ambulances and taxis - all mobilized for the cause.”

The hospitals that participated in the operations were Rambam, Soroka, Beilinson, Hillel Yaffe, Hadassah Mount Scopus, Hadassah Ein Kerem, Schneider, Sheba and Ichilov.
