When Dudu Aouate left Maccabi Haifa for Spanish club Racing Santander in the summer of 2003, there were those who said he would be back within a year.
However, he now appears set to complete a decade in one of the world’s top league’s after signing a two-year contract extension at Mallorca that will keep him at the La Liga club until 2013.
The 32-year-old Aouate, who was underrated in Israel for many years, helped Mallorca to a fifth-place finish last season, his first at the club.
The Israeli played all 38 matches of last season’s Liga campaign and finished as the league’s fourth-best keeper, conceding just 44 goals.
After playing for Santander between 2003 and 2006, Aouate moved to Deportivo La Coruna for two years before transferring to Mallorca for around one million euros last June.
Aouate has been the Israel national team’s starting goalkeeper since 2006 and has amassed 51 caps to date.
