Guy Barnea improved his Israeli record in the 100 meters backstroke by 10 hundredths of a second at Wingate on Tuesday, winning the Maccabiah final in a time of 54.22 seconds. Barnea also slashed his Israeli record in the 50m backstroke earlier this week and will be entering next week's World Championships in Rome in excellent form. "I'm not very excited about this record because I wanted to go under 54 seconds," Barnea said. "But now I will need to do that in Rome." The women's 100m backstroke was won by Israel's Anna Volchkov in a time of 1:03.93m. The second Israeli record of the day was set by the women's 4x200m team, which won the final in a time of 8:32.12m. Israel men's team claimed the gold in the 4x200m final, touching the wall after 7:31.80m.
