Israel's women's basketball team suffered a big blow in its chase of a berth for EuroBasket 2007 on Thursday, losing 78-71 to Poland in its second and final game of the additional qualifying tournament. The national team led by six points after three quarters (58-52), but a poor final period may end up costing the team a place in the European Championships. The blue-and-white will only advance to the championships should Slovakia defeat Poland on Friday night by more then one point and less than 20. Any other result will see one of the other teams book their place in a main draw group which includes Turkey, Latvia and the Czech Republic. Liad Suaz-Karni led Israel with 16 points, with Jennifer Fleischer and Liron Cohen adding 15 and 14 points respectively. Poland's Agnieszka Bibrzycka was unstoppable from beyond the arc, scoring six three pointers on her way to 32 points. Israel, which is hoping to reach its fourth ever championships, played in the EuroBasket four years ago in Greece, but failed to qualify for Turkey in 2005.
