Galil Elyon climbs out of the red zone

After a tight first quarter which the Galil won, the hosts extended their advantage at the start of the second period.

Hapoel Galil Elyon-Golan moved out of the BSL relegation zone on Monday night, defeating Maccabi Givat Shmuel 95-92 in Matchday 11 at Kfar Blum. Galil (4-7) led by as many as 19 points in the third period, but a late comeback by the visitors tied the score with three minutes remaining. However, the hosts survived the nail baiting finish and completed the victory over Givat Shmuel (3-8), which remains in last place. Chester Simmons and Sasa Bratic led Galil with 18 points each. Moshe Brener was the higest scorer for the visitors with 23 points. After a tight first quarter which the Galil won 21-17, the hosts extended their advantage at the start of the second period, opening a double-digit lead (29-19). Hapoel was ahead 47-31 at halftime and led by 19 points (58-39) after an 8-0 run in the third quarter. Givat Shmuel began to eat into the lead in the second part of the period and was only trailing by 10 points (70-60) at the end of the quarter. Good play by Brenner and Boo Davis helped Maccabi to tie the score (81-81) midway through the final period. But the hosts clung to their lead and secured the important victory in the battle against relegation.
