Ayelet Halfon and Denis Leonov won a dramatic playoff at the Rolex and Citroen International Pairs tournament at Ga'ash Golf Club on Thursday. After 18 holes Halfon and Leonov were level with Ofer Shmueli and Eli Sacks on 42 Stableford points. But Leonov made a par with a sand-save, sending him and Halfon to Scotland for the World International Pairs Tournament to be held in Fairmont St. Andrews later this year. In third place were Cyril and Norma Kaufman, who won the competition two years ago, with 41 Stableford points. Nearly 140 golfers had started their quest to reach the unique opportunity to play in the finals in Scotland. After two qualifying rounds, 24 teams reached the final. There was a shot-gun start with all the teams starting at the same time, on different holes. The pressure definitely took its toll with the scores not being as good as in the qualifying rounds. The Wine Center at Ga'ash "Nearest to the Pin" prizes went on hole 4, par 3, 124 meters to Karin Weizman. On hole 9, par 3, 160 meters it was won by Ofer Shmueli and on hole 14, the 163m par 3, it was taken by Slav Kavasky.
