Games We Play - Golf: Friedrich brothers qualify for Int'l pairs final

The pair of Moshe Nesis and Moti Sela on 41 Stableford points and Hadera school boys, the brothers Ben and Yair Friedrich on 40 Stableford points had the best scores in the second qualifying round of the "International Pairs" competition held at the Ga'ash Golf Club yesterday. On 37 points were the pairs of Estie Noy and Uri Meyer, Nissim Levy and Phillip Mendel, and former Betar Jerusalem player Gary Vandermolen and Danny Hurwitz. Twenty four teams have now qualified to play in the final round, to take place early in August at Ga'ash, to determine which pair will represent Israel in the World Finals of the International Pairs to be held on the Duke's Golf course on the St. Andrew's compound in Scotland, in early September. With the warm weather conditions scoring was not an easy challenge. The two Friedrich brothers, 17-year-old Ben and 13-year-old Yair excelled, both playing off a five-handicap in the Better-Ball Stableford Competition, 75% handicap. Ben who is studying at a school in Miami and attends the John Webster Golf Academy had "The Shot of the Day" on hole-12, par 4, stroke 6, playing 298 meters to the middle of the green. After driving 198 meters he hit his second shot using a pitching wedge from 109 meters out with once bounce into the hole which was tucked into the top right-hand corner of the green, to score a truly memorable eagle. The "Wine Center" at Ga'ash's Nearest to the Pin prizes went to: Hole 4, par 3, 124m - Shmulik Zysman; Hole 9, par 3, 160m - Moshe Nesis; Hole 14, par 3, 164m - Danny Ronen Next week Ga'ash Golf is looking forward to the July Monthly Medal.
