Nufar Herskovitch and Yahav Rabin captured the women's and men's Israeli National Individual Championship with a 2-1 victory in the best-of-three games finals at Bola Bowling in Holon, Israel on August 30. Herskovitch from Petah Tikva club defeated Yifat Tal in the deciding match of the women's finals by one pin (231-180, 137-209, 191-190). Rabin flew past Gal Shem in the decider (221-144, 176-197, 217-167). Usually the champions book their tickets to the European Champions Cup, but not this year as the finals will be staged on Saturday, September 22 which is Yom Kippur. The Israeli request to change the date was denied by the ETBF. According to host tournament coordinator Claude Legrand it wouldn't have been a problem for the organizer to move the event one week. This affects not only the new Israeli champion but also reigning ECC champion Or Aviram, who cannot defend the title he won in Riga, Latvia, in 2006. However, Herskovitch and Rabin were consoled by receiving an even more coveted ticket. "As our champions cannot go to the ECC, they will represent Israel in the 2007 Bowling World Cup in Russia," said Arie Fisher, President of the Israel Bowling Federation. While Herskovitch is a newcomer on the World Cup stage, Rabin will make his fifth appearance. He finished third in Singapore (2004) and fifth in Pattaya, Thailand (2001).
