In a busy ISA softball week, the Dawgs upset the Galil Twisters 8-5, Shimshon Hi-Tech defeated Otzma Eilat 15-9, Dimona Mean Judeans took two, 16-1 over Eilat and 9-5 over Zion Tours, and Penticon bested the Tigers 8-2. In a women's game, the Beit Shemesh Fireballs fended off the Dimona Lady Judeans 15-13 who then beat ISP Tel Aviv 13-12. Yehezkel Ganz pitched out of jam after jam, and the Galil Twisters ran into three outs on the bases, as the Dawgs beat them for the first time in their history. The Twisters jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings on a 2-RBI single from Alex Crane and an RBI single from Rob Barasch, while pitcher Yosi Ajzenwaser held the Dawgs at bay. The Dawgs took the lead for good in a wild five-run third, combining four walks and RBI hits from Ganz and Shmuel Goldstein and Ganz held the Twisters scoreless for the final three frames. Jeff Weiner added an RBI single in the fourth before teen relief pitcher Shlomi Dahan entered and retired all four batters he faced. In a game that was closer then the score indicates, Shimshon Hi-Tech earned their fourth win of the year 15-8 over Otzma Eilat. Center fielder Mark Chass led the way by reaching base and scoring all five times he batted. SS Shem-Tov Shapiro did the same in his four at bats and Shimon Leibowitz, Sandor Joffe, and Rafi Goldmeir chipped in with solid defense. Boris Yegudayev pitched well for Eilat and also double twice and Amos Pollack added three hits. Dimona ran over Eilat 16-1 behind 12 strikeouts from Elyaheed Ben Israel who allowed only a bunt single to Yoni Weiss while walking six. Akazia Ben Israel tripled and drove in four runs, Yehuda Ben Israel had three hits and two RBI's and Elyaheed helped out with a triple of his own. Yegudayev and combined to strike out eight Mean Judeans while catcher Roy Even snared a foul pop and doubled the runner off first. Dimona also downed Zion Tours 9-5. Yaron Ben Israel stymied a powerful ZT offense, while the Mean Judean's loaded the bases twice on bunts. Horaliel Ben Israel knocked in three runs and Oved Ben Israel two as Dimona scored seven unearned runs on eight ZT errors. Tom Haskell homered, Dave Epstein had two RBI's and Benny Ruggill tripled for ZT. Ami Baran pitched a strong game keeping the Tiger batters off balance and registering six strikeouts in an 8-2 win over the Tigers. Teenager Etai Mayerfeld, was solid at second base and Daniel Maddy made a sliding catch in centerfield to save an extra base hit and stop an early Tiger rally. Baran also helped himself on offense with two run-scoring single to break open what had been a close game and Howie Hirsh added three hits. The Beit Shemesh Fireballs pulled off a rare triple play in their 15-13 win over the Dimona Lady Judeans on Sunday night at Gezer. Catcher Rhonda Lloyd caught a fouled bunt with the runners running, threw to Monica Drori at 1st for the second out, who tossed it to Inbal Haskell at second for the final out of the inning. Efrat Yaakov who pitched a great game, shutting out the Judeans in the middle three innings. Meanwhile, the Fireballs scored in bunches, with Yaakov leading the way with an inside-the-park homerun, SS Minna Wolf and Lloyd each smoking two doubles. Carmiah, Dimona's new pitcher threw respectably and strengthened towards the end, as her teammates fought back from a 15-5 deficit, but Yaakov shut the door. A walk-off game-ending single allowed Dimona to save face, 13-12 over ISP Tel Aviv.
