Pe'er overpowered by Russian in US Open quarterfinals

Had she won, Pe'er would have become the first ever israeli tennis player to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam singles tournament.

Israeli tennis star Shahar Pe'er missed a chance to make history on Wednesday after losing in the quarterfinals of the US Open in New York 6:4, 6:1 to Anna Chakvetadze of Russia. Chakvetadze, seeded sixth in the tournament, overcame a 4-2 Pe'er lead in the first set to win the next four games and the first set. The second set was one-sided as the Russian overpowered the 18th-seeded Pe'er to easily win 6:1 and clinch her first ever spot in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament. Had she won, Pe'er would have become the first ever israeli tennis player to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam singles tournament.
