Jon Scheyer completed his first visit to Israel on Sunday, undergoing a medical before saying in his first press conference in the Holy Land that he will “have a lot to prove” at Maccabi Tel Aviv in the coming season.
The 23-year-old guard, who led Duke University to the NCAA Championship in 2009/10, agreed to a two-year contract with the yellow-and-blue two weeks ago and is looking forward to making a move to Israel after what he saw in the short time he got to spend in the country since his arrival on Saturday afternoon.
“It’s my first time in Israel and it has been a great experience so far,” said Scheyer, who missed much of last season after having to undergo surgery to repair damage to his right retina.
“Playing for a great organization with great history is something I’m very honored to be a part of. I’m looking forward to getting to know my teammates and learn from coach Blatt and just bring everything that I can to the table.
“I feel confident and excited and can’t wait to get started.”
