Soccer coach Scolari speaks at Israel conference

Soccer coaching legend Luiz Felipe Scolari on Monday addressed a sports business conference in Israel as part of a visit aimed at bringing Israelis and Palestinians closer together through sports. Scolari led his native Brazil to victory at the World Cup in 2002 and also took Portugal to the final of the 2004 European Championship - losing to Greece - and to fourth place in last year's World Cup. He is the guest of the Peres Center for Peace, founded by Nobel Peace laureate Shimon Peres in 1996 to encourage economic and grassroots cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians. The Peres Center's soccer program provides after-school soccer lessons and mathematics and English tutoring sessions twice a week. Every few weeks, Israeli and Palestinian children are brought together for joint activities. During his visit, Scolari will meet with some of the children involved in the program.
